Trans Am
| I own a 1980 and 1981 Pontiac Trans Am. I feel it is one of the best platforms to build a fast car that handles and has some modern toys. I have through the years learnt how to make the T/A go & handle with a Pontiac motor. Currently it has a 455 .040 overmotor (cam is a secret) with an Edelbrock Torquer intake and an 800 CFM worked Quadrajet carb coupled to a Nitemare Performance built THM 350 full race Reverse Manual Valve Body transmission that has lasted 20 years and handled 500 horsepower. MSD ignition and Remote Oil Filtration are a must. Other musts include headers (Hooker Super-Comp), high flow cats (if you live in an emissions regulated state), dual exhaust and Flowmaster mufflers, all ceramic coated. To make it handle all bushings must be polyurethyne. Subframe connectors are a must on unibody cars to prevent body flex with all that power. |

This year will see a major restification start on the Mighty T/A; a new radical 455 motor made by Nitemare Performance (The current motor from Nitemare has lasted 20 years!), Suspension upgrades(Bigger sway bars), Exhaust modifications (3") & Doug's headers, an Automatic THM 400 Reverse Manual Valve body, New 10 Bolt Posi rear end, Tubbed wheel wells, interior restoration (carpet, seats, headliner, alarm), and major bodywork, with new paint & decals (very much needed). I will perform most work (interior, electronics and most bodywork and suspension), NIGHTMARE PERFORMANCE will supply a new engine & ransmission, install the exhaust and provide custom suspension modifications. Estimated cost $120,000.00 The daily driver 1981 Trans Am (Pics coming soon) has a mild 400 motor (430 horse 450 ft/lbs of torque) with a THM 400 Reverse Manual Valve body, 3.41 Posi 10 Bolt and subframe connectors. New fenders & floors, new interior, new door window mechanicals, all new weatherstripping, new 4 wheel disc brakes and wiring harnesses, as well as poly urethane bushings all around finalized with all other metal blasted & powder coated. Outside new paint & decals will make the car a sight to see. I'm not sure if I'll keep the stock wheels or go aftermarket. Estimated cost $25,000.00 Once I finish this daily driver this fall, I'm going to start the Mighty Trans Am, and a secret project (estimated cost $10-15,000.00)I plan to give my special lady for a wedding present. |
